Jens Bergensten has today revealed why he decided to ‘leak’ Minecraft Beta 1.8 in a pre-release mode instead of releasing the actual update.
Jens admitted the he has stopped focusing on new features while he removes bugs. He added that he didn’t release Minecraft Beta 1.8 properly on Friday as “there are too many bugs”.
Have you tried out the pre-release version of 1.8 and if so what do you think of the new content? Comment your opinion below.

September 11, 2011 at 5:27 PMI completely agree; the game as-is is, in fact, very buggy.
Putting things in/taking things out of the furnace will cause the game to crash (if in full-screen).
There’s some bug about an infinitely-spawning item bug when it’s dropped from a crafting table.
Torches placed on chests just hang in midair when the chest is open.
I have found only 1 sheep and 3 pigs since starting my world, and that’s after 2 hours of gameplay
spent above ground (though that might actually be due to the possible “breeding” update).
Sometimes, running over dirt w/ flowers and trees nearby causes my game to crash.
Chests placed in worlds before the update turn black until a torch is placed nearby (upon which time you can take it away)
Sometimes (as seen on YouTube), Enderman won’t attack you even after staring at them for AGES. Plus, they don’t seem to do much damage.
Ravines spawn AFTER other buildings and caverns, and in one case (see Yogscast Minecraft Season 3; Strongholds and Giant Mushrooms for proof) a ravine cut straight through a Stronghold and destroyed an entire hallway. (Note; this is bad, because only 1 Stronghold spawns in each world)
Bonemeal doesn’t work on Pumpkins and Melons.
You cannot eat food on Peaceful, making it quite useless. You can’t even lose anything from the food bar. Speaking of which…
Unless you use the default texture in the game, the food bar and various other new features don’t work. My food bar looked like a line of pink, fuzzy squares.
Seeing as how this set of glitches is pretty long, I won’t put any more. Thus, I rest my case; getting a non-buggy version is worth the wait.

September 11, 2011 at 7:57 PMI noticed that when playing on survival mode, on a brand new world created in 1.8 that whenever i used a furnace the game would go to a screen with a dirt texture as a background it would say “saving chunks” then go black. also there seems to be a lighting bug with the chests, unless there is a torch right above the chest it will appear nearly black. this has happened with all my worlds (pre1.8 and 1.8) although sometimes the lighting works fine

September 11, 2011 at 8:01 PMa few things to note in response texture packs aren’t by Mojang so they can’t help the people when they add new content it happens every update for a day or two until the packs are remade
on peaceful it is impossible to starve as auto heal heals fats than u would lose life so their is no point if there is a problem try hard :P
overall while buggy its great fun to try out the new stuff the game is still in beta after all bugs r the whole point :)

September 11, 2011 at 9:54 PMYeah, it is pretty much too buggy to play.
The villages, abandon mines-shafts, and strongholds are by far the biggest disappointments. Even when all these are working properly (e.g. when you get lucky enough to find a stronghold which hasn’t been completely screwed up by being spawned in with a mine-shaft), it gets boring pretty fast because it’s too repetitive.
And what happened to the NPC characters that were supposed to be spawned in with the villages? I wanted to trade and stuff…
I think there was a mod called the Aether mod. It had all sorts of amazing, fun stuff that kept me playing… why can’t Notch do something like that?

“Putting things in/taking things out of the furnace will cause the game to crash (if in full-screen).” I agree however it doesn’t just happen in full-screen and seems to be random.
“There’s some bug about an infinitely-spawning item bug when it’s dropped from a crafting table.” I agree, had iron constantly spawning
“Torches placed on chests just hang in midair when the chest is open.” Don’t place them on chests then.
“I have found only 1 sheep and 3 pigs since starting my world, and that’s after 2 hours of gameplay spent above ground (though that might actually be due to the possible “breeding” update).” I didn’t have that problem at all. By 2 hours do you mean you explored for 2 hours or stayed in the same spot? If you’re in the wrong biome for friendly mobs then that’s your problem.
“Sometimes, running over dirt w/ flowers and trees nearby causes my game to crash.” Haven’t seen this glitch yet.
“Chests placed in worlds before the update turn black until a torch is placed nearby (upon which time you can take it away)” Seen this, it’s apparently to do with where you stand.
“Sometimes (as seen on YouTube), Enderman won’t attack you even after staring at them for AGES. Plus, they don’t seem to do much damage.” As someone else said they only attack you when you turn away and you have to have your crosshair on them.
“Ravines spawn AFTER other buildings and caverns, and in one case (see Yogscast Minecraft Season 3; Strongholds and Giant Mushrooms for proof) a ravine cut straight through a Stronghold and destroyed an entire hallway. (Note; this is bad, because only 1 Stronghold spawns in each world)” I actually liked the sort of half destroyed strongholds. I don’t know why no one else does.
“Bonemeal doesn’t work on Pumpkins and Melons.” This is a gameplay element not a glitch.
“You cannot eat food on Peaceful, making it quite useless. You can’t even lose anything from the food bar.” Why do you need to eat food if it’s on peaceful?
“Speaking of which…
Unless you use the default texture in the game, the food bar and various other new features don’t work. My food bar looked like a line of pink, fuzzy squares.” That’s not really anything Mojang can help. The texture packs were made for an older version so they aren’t going to work when textures for 1.8 haven’t been made yet.
“Seeing as how this set of glitches is pretty long, I won’t put any more. Thus, I rest my case; getting a non-buggy version is worth the wait.” You only mentioned a few glitches, the rest weren’t glitches and were gameplay elements or problems with only YOUR copy of minecraft.

September 12, 2011 at 7:26 AMSeriously, is this pre-release just a beta to an update for a beta to a game? Mohjang obviously bit off more than they could chew with this update. Can’t believe people are complaining about the pre-release being buggy though – you don’t have to play it!

September 12, 2011 at 8:12 AMThe Pre-Release was the best Minecraft I have played. I love the new food system and health regeneration. As for the experience bar, I didn’t see what it was doing, but I’m sure they have a lot in mind for it. Bugs, I didn’t see thousands or anything. It was a lot of fun to play, but without the Optimine (no-lag) mod I can’t play it. Overall, Mojang is headed in the best direction for this game, and I think it will put up a good competition for Terraria.

September 12, 2011 at 11:05 AMI think it’s great. I have had a much lower FPS in the prerelease than usual, and I’ve encountered bugs, but its hardly “not playable.” Google Minecraft Furnance Glitch Fix. If you know how to mod you can fix it. The Furnance glitch was the only game breaking thing I’ve encountered.
Also, FYI, Endermen are currently passive in the prerelease. Doesn’t matter if you look at them and look away, they won’t attack you.

September 12, 2011 at 11:12 AMI think the content and idea in general is great! I was hoping there would be at least one “Game Changer” as there has been in every other update recently (powered rails, redstone repeaters, charcoal, etc…)
This not only simplifies the came (while making it more complicated) but also allows you to bring a whole new set of content to the same game.
Case in point, previous if you didnt have food in your quickbar it was very easy to die, now if your food is full you get the “Peaceful” benefitts of the game without having to be super fast when a creaper hits you from behind. Also, underground caves / NPC interaction with the world puts a whole new challenge in exploring caves. No longer is it so easy to navigate through them.

Dunno what’s wrong with your prerelease. I’ve been battling aggressive Enderman since Friday.

September 12, 2011 at 4:10 PM@ross – Er…what NPC interaction? I’ve run into several empty village, but not NPCS :(

September 12, 2011 at 5:51 PMHonestly like I like concepts of everything (except for the food bar concept on servers). I wish that the food thing could be disabled on the server side (perfectly fine for single player), though as I really don’t like that its just another distraction to slow you down from building. It might not exist in the creative servers but I happen to like killing mobs on servers. This might be hardwired in to the client so server might not allow that option (client mod then?)! And if the food thing can’t be screwed with to stop it then I will likely get bored and stop as I like to build massive buildings not farms to keep me alive.
