The DayZ development team has recently revealed the testing process has started, as well as commenting on the risks of making a standalone title.
DayZ started out as a Zombie mod of the army simulator ARMA 2. ARMA 2 is however known for being both a great army sim and being incredibly hard to master. The team decided last year to turn the much loved mod into a standalone title only using the ARMA 2 engine as a basis to build on. According to Rocketkiwi the change has been worth it.
The risks we took with the direction have paid off. The engine and approach of the game is now entirely DayZ’s own, it is striking out into its own territory as a project.
Rocketkiwi also revealed that internal testing of the standalone DayZ had begun. To make it even more interesting it was also mentioned that the team has “been working with Valve to ensure our new server browser system is working”.
So it seems DayZ is getting closer to being in gamers hands and if the comparison above is anything to go on it’ll be better than ever.
