Much of the talk about the Playstation Vita this year has been about the price, and how it should receive a price cut of some sort. This is of course a comment that is influenced by how quickly the 3DS’ price was cut after release. If you’re hoping for an official price cut this year, it looks like you’ll be out of luck.
Speaking with Shuhei Yoshida, Eurogamer asked if the PS Vita would be seeing a price cut anytime this year. Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, said “we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles”, then later mentioning the newly announced LittleBigPlanet Vita bundle. Speaking on sales, Yoshida said “obviously we would like to see more uptake”,
According to Eurogamer, Sony engineers are working hard to reduce the manufacturing costs on the Vita, which will in turn reduce the unit price, but that will not happen this year. If you were looking to buy a Vita this year, it seems like Black Friday may be your best bet if you can wait a few months.
