Star Trek fans won’t boldly be going anywhere for a while as German publisher Gameforge announced that it has cancelled its upcoming free to play browser based MMO, Star Trek: Infinite Space due to not being able to find new partners.
“Since autumn 2011 we made many efforts to find a publishing and marketing partner for Star Trek: Infinite Space. Unfortunately, our efforts were not successful. So we have decided with a heavy heart to finally abandon the project Star Trek: Infinite Space. The discontinuation is very regrettable. Unfortunately it happens from time to time that a good concept for a game cannot be implemented as originally planned.”
The game was announced back in 2010 with a view to release in fall 2011 and Gameforge stated last year that it would differ from the official Star Trek: Online and other free to play MMO’s because of “the epic storyline written by Star Trek screenwriter Lee Sheldon and the support of the renowned Star Trek advisors Michael and Denise Okuda, the game gives players a remarkable Star Trek experience.” Unfortunately we will never make it so.
