Has Enough Red Tape Been Cleared for Arc System Works to Make a New Guilty Gear?

Do you think the legal issues with the creators of Modern Warfare and publisher Activision was the first time something of that nature happened? Well guess again. Developer Arc System Works, creator of the 2D fighting series Guilty Gear, was unable to continue the series when they parted ways with Sega Sammy.

ASW went on the create a new franchise titled BlazBlue, in which they had full rights and control over. Guilty Gear fans were heartbroken as hope was lost and they said their goodbyes to Sol Badguy, Millia Rage, Baiken, and Bridget. But there may be hope just yet; in an interview with Gamasutra, Guilty Gear‘s director Daisuke Ishiwatari says that there’s now nothing stopping ASW from making a new chapter of the Guilty Gear saga.

“Well, rumors are rumors,” Ishiwatari told Gamasutra, when asked if a new Guilty Gear is being made. “I’d be lying if I said there were no problems at all, but much of that has been cleared away since. There’s no impediment to making it now. A lot of people are definitely asking what’s up with the series, that’s true; a lot of gamers want to see it. I can’t say when it may come out or anything like that, but I definitely want to answer the voices of the fans someday.”

So while a statement that a new Guilty Gear is on the way has not yet been written in stone, things look much more promising than they did. Fans keep your fingers crossed as we all hope to see a return of the beloved franchise.
