It was a busy weekend this week with four new video game releases coming out. The one game that came out on top is Ubisoft’s Far Cry New Dawn.
As reported by Game Industry, Far Cry New Dawn was the best selling video game this week, however it didn’t sell as many copies as last year’s release of Far Cry 5. To put this into more perspective, sales for New Dawn were 86.5% lower than that of Far Cry 5!
New Dawn even failed to sell as many copies as Far Cry Primal which came out in 2016. Far Cry Primal’s sales were four times higher than the first week of Far Cry New Dawn. 60 percent of the game was sold on PS4 while 39 percent was for the Xbox One version.
Since New Dawn is a spin-off, the lower numbers shouldn’t spook off Ubisoft too much. It’s possible sales will be higher if Far Cry 6 ever gets released in the near future.
Things might be disappointing for Ubisoft, but Deep Silver should be celebrating this week. This is because the release of Metro Exodus were almost 50% higher than its predecessor Metro Last Light which came out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013.
Another game that had a decent opening this week was Bandai Namco’s Jump Force. The game failed to beat Red Dead Redemption 2, but it still managed to be the fourth best selling game of the week.
The biggest loser this week is Crackdown 3 which only managed to place number 13 on the UK game charts. The game also sold far less than Crackdown 2 did back in 2010. That being said, more people would have played the game digitally via Xbox Game Pass so it’s not a huge loss for Microsoft.
