Usually every year Ubisoft releases a new Assassin’s Creed video game annually. This has been a popular move, although the rushed development time has caused some of the games to be rushed out. We saw this when Assassin’s Creed Unity came out in 2014 as that game launched with lots of bugs and glitches.
There has been a new Assassin’s Creed game released every year since 2007 most of the time. The only years the main series took a break was in 2008 and in 2016. That said, 2016 still saw the release of a spinoff game plus the release of the live action movie starring Michael Fassbender in the main role.
Well now it sounds like 2019 will be a year that Ubisoft is taking a year off from the Assassin’s Creed series once again. It looks like Ubisoft is using 2019 to take a break to give the developers more time to make future games in the series.
As reported by Gamespot, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed the series is going to take a break in 2019 when he was speaking at Gamescom 2018. You can read his comments posted down below.
“On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year. It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one. What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually“.
Yves Guillemot empathized that no spinoff game or any other title from the Assassin’s Creed series is releasing in 2019 either. It’s more than likely we could see Watch Dogs 3 or another major Ubisoft game get released in 2019 instead.
