With the release of God of War III on the PlayStation 3, fans might think that the series has come to an end. Fortunately, that is not the case. A new God of War game, which takes place between the events of God of War I and II, is coming out on the PSP late this year. For fans who played Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta on the PSP plays exactly the same.
The show floor demo was a very short and brief level of the Ship of Atlantis. This will be familiar for fans, as it’s the same level that is on the first God of War game. The gameplay and controls are pretty much the same: square button for attack, circle button to grab, and X to jump. Fans trying it out on the PSP will experience the same God of War game as they did on the consoles. At the end of the demo, comes the Hydra, which was also found on the first God of War title. Playing the level gave me a nostalgia but it’s a good one!
One of the new features found in Ghost of Sparta is the Hyperion’s Charge. This attack allows Kratos to hold down an enemy and use it as a shield to bash other enemies, similar to the battering ram attack in God of War III. The demo didn’t really give that much information concerning the game’s plot, but it’s good enough to give me the impression that Ghost of Sparta lives up to the series despite being on a handheld device.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is scheduled for release this year on the PSP.
