There are two types of superhero video games out there. Games can either be terrible like Superman 64, or they can be great like the Batman Arkham series. It goes without saying that Spider-Man PS4 is trying its best to replicate the latter rather than the former.
Spider-Man PS4’s Creative Director Bryan Intihar recently talked with The Telegraph where he described Insomniac Games’ ambition to make the new game great and memorable. He says the Batman Arkham games were a huge inspiration rather than a competitor.
Intihar said: “People ask, do you find them competitors? No! They inspire! Those games inspire us. I look at those games but I don’t look at specific features, I look at the quality, not to mention fulfilling the fantasy of being Batman. Our goals are to make sure people say our game is on their quality level.”
Even though superheroes rule at the Box Office, there’s a big gap in the market in the video game industry. Batman: Arkham Knight was the last decent single player superhero game that came out back in 2015. We had Injustice 2 and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite last year, but they were both fighting games. Hopefully Spider-Man PS4 lives up to the hype as many Marvel fans are looking forward to it.
