2017 has to be one of the best gaming years in recent memory. There were a lot of great games and I invested hundred of hours on several titles. However, the game I poured the most hours into this year is the excellent Persona 5.
Persona 5 isn’t just a great JRPG, as it’s one of the best games I have ever played from any genre. This is all thanks to a likable cast of characters and one of the best video game stories of all time.
The storyline is somewhat similar to Inception since the main characters have to change the “heart” of several people inside their subconscious mind. The first story arc was gripping and delved upon very heavy topics that aren’t usually covered in video games.
As you progress, the plot thickens and many twists and turns are to be experienced. I actually liked Persona 5’s story much better than Persona 4, although that’s just my opinion. Other people may think differently…
The art style is also commendable as the comic book like 2D graphics are a joy to witness. It’s like you are reading a Japanese manga come to life in front of your very eyes.
The game also has multiple things for you to do that easily features over 100 hours of fun gameplay. A good amount of the game you are exploring dungeons engaging in the game’s enjoyable turn-based combat system.
On the flipside of that, the main protagonist can also lead a normal life as a school student in Japan. I’ve never been to Japan in real life, but this game made me visit the country vicariously which is fun for me.
There’s so many side activities that you can do to increase your stats. This might include playing baseball, try fishing or even going on dates with many women that you meet.
The music is also very memorable and one of the best soundtracks that I have heard in many years. The music is so good, I even have the whole album downloaded on my phone!
I liked Final Fantasy XV last year, but I feel Persona 5 is the superior game thanks to a better story that doesn’t feel like it was rushed. This game is easily in my top 3 favorite games in this whole generation along with Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
