The Star Wars Battlefront game that came out two years ago was disappointing because there was no single player campaign. Well it seems as if EA has listened to the fans as Star Wars Battlefront 2 features a great campaign so far.
We managed to play the first three missions of the the single player campaign of Star Wars Battlefront 2 via EA Access. What was offered so far looks very promising. This is far from a generic first person shooter.
Since the game that came out two years ago had a lack of content, I was skeptical that Battlefront 2 would have a decent campaign. I assumed it would have been boring with a lack of variety in its gameplay.
Boy, was my assumption very wrong. The first three missions of the campaign are enjoyable because you can take part in various different playing styles.
The campaign actually starts off as you controlling a medical droid trying to help out main character (Iden Versio) getting out of a Rebel jail cell. You have to control the droid as it hacks doors and hides inside vents. This section reminded me a lot of the first Metal Gear Solid game.
Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, stealth still plays a big role in the first mission. Iden Versio herself is able to take out enemies with awesome melee animations. That said, you can still choose to go crazy like Rambo and shoot everything in sight if you really want to.
The second mission is more like a traditional shooter. You are now in the forest moon of Endor taking out the Rebel soldiers during the end of Return of the Jedi. You have to clear a path so that you can escape the moon unharmed in a TIE fighter.
The third mission adds even more variety because you can partake in actual space battles as you can pilot the TIE Fighter. This is arguably the best part about the campaign so far. The controls are easy to master and space battles are fun and frantic to participate in.
What I also like about the campaign is that the AI is somewhat smart. They often hide behind cover and force you get exposed. You often need to find the “high ground” to get an advantage during firefights.
We’re not sure how long the full single player campaign is, but hopefully the rest of the game is as good as the first three missions. The game releases on November 17th, 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The deluxe edition comes out earlier on November 14th, 2017.
