Focus upgrades are based on how many shards you have and are rare to come by and some are well hidden. Some you earn by natural progression and others glow in the environment and can be earned by staring at them until they appear. The breakdown below shows you what you can put your Focus points towards as you progress the game.
Intution
Great for those who are looking to stealth the majority of the game but also for those who want to snag every treasure with minimal use of a loot guide.
I
– Highlights elements in the environment from a distance
-Loot and interactive objects are blue
-Threats and other dangerous elements (traps) are red.
II
-Ability to know where unique loots and collection items are hidden
-Hand prints appear to reveal the paths to loot.
Dexterity
Another necessary upgrade for those who are looking to get all the loot.
I
-Ability to pickpocket multiple items from a single person.
II
– Allows Garrett to visualize the inner workings of lock mechanisms while in focus.
-Increases speed at which locks are picked.
Sense
I did not find this one too helpful as Thief becomes a game that is more about learning enemies routes than having to worry about them returning.
I
-Ability to visually detect noises from threats within a short distance
II
-Increases the range for visually detecting noises.
Combat
Not extremely helpful if you plan on stealth the entire game.
I
-Ability to stun an opponent with a single blow
-While focus is activated, target the torso and attack.
II
-Ability to knock out an opponent in a single blow
-While focus is activated, target the head and attack
Speed
Essentially makes you fast while in focus mode. Can be helpful in certain scenarios.
I
-Slightly increases speed of your actions during marksman, combat and lock picking by slowing the world around you.
II
-Greatly increases the speed of your actions during marksman, combat and lock picking by slowing it even more.
Efficiency
One of the more important ones if you plan on using a lot of focus powers.
I
-Slightly reduces the consumption rate of Focus energy.
II
-Greatly reduces the consumption rate of Focus energy.
Marksman
If you plan on killing a lot of enemies with the bow, this is a necessity.
I
-Greatly amplifies your visual range when zoomed, does not require Focus energy.
II
-Greatly increases speed of accuracy with the bow.
Stealth
If you plan on doing a perfect stealth playthrough this is a must have.
I
-Ability to move more silently while using focus.
-Reduces the range of sounds you generate including those produced by surfaces.
II
-Ability to stay concealed while using focus.
-For a short duration, keep the benefit of being in the shadow while entering light.
