This year at Gamescom 2019, CD Projekt RED revealed that The Witcher 3 will finally release for Switch on October 15th. Since then, many are wondering just how big the file size is and how the performance would be.
First off, The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch weighs in at around 28GB of data. For those who have a small microSD card should consider buying a much bigger card to accommodate the size of the game.
According to a recent preview article from Famitsu, the magazine confirms that The Witcher 3 loads around 40% faster on Nintendo Switch. Mr. Satoshi Honma, the Japan country manager for The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED, stated that the reason behind the faster load times is the compression the developer has done. The Switch version is said to shorten the draw distance between Geralt and other objects on the screen, so the game will only load what Geralt is close to. In addition, density on tree leaf, cut scenes, and shadow details have all changed as well.
Based on the videos that CD Projekt RED released, The Witcher 3 runs very smooth for the Nintendo Switch. However, too much compression is evident as the textures look blurry and is in low resolution. While it’s running at 30 frames per second, the game is on par with the PS4 and Xbox One version when it comes to frame rates.
Since we are about over a month away from the game’s official release, it’s hard to pass a verdict already. It will all depends on how well the game will run. But for those who want to really experience The Witcher 3 to its fullest, playing it on the console will probably your best bet.
The Witcher 3 for the Nintendo Switch will be available on October 15. It will include all previously released DLCs and expansions. Check back with us near the release date for our review coverage.
