Right now Death Stranding is probably the most divisive game set to release this year. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of, for lack of a better term, interesting trailers, yet none of them really explained what the experience will be like. However, according to Hideo Kojima, this is about to change.
While optimistic, this should help bridge the gap between players excited by the lack of information and those looking for an understanding of what they’re getting themselves into. It’s also much needed insight, as we still know very little about the experience and the recent Gamescom trailer(s) didn’t do much to help.
Each video focuses on a different aspect of the game, without giving a clear indication of what exactly is going on. Bridge Baby and Dead Man gives a clear indication that the baby is important and a key element, something we already knew, without really expanding on anything.
Mama continues this by implying the baby acts in a way that I would say is fair to call typical next to real or normal babies. It also shows it will be so much more than just a simple do this or that to win, but even that is hard to say.
Ludens Fan is where things start to get more problematic. In addition to very little going on, this video tries to sell gameplay without any real sense outside of the ability to pee and climb a ladder. It has hit a point where fans want to know what they’re buying, which is why the aforementioned Gamescom booth trailer is so important. Now, whether or not it actually does this has yet to be seen but hopefully it will give players something to look forward to besides hoping Kojima comes through again.
