Yesterday, when the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pass trailer was teased with a picture of Shang Tsung and multiple different colored lights, it sparked two theories. The first believed the lights indicated Shang Tsung would be similar to Triborg and be an amalgamation of ninjas, both included and missing. The other theory said the colors were subtile references to the characters being revealed, with green being Nightwolf and purple relating to Sindel.
Now that the trailer is out, surprisingly, both theories were proven at least somewhat correct. As you can see in the trailer, found below, Shang Tsung has the powers of the various ninjas, along with the ability to copy his opponent and another delightful reference in his included fatality. Some have already wondered if his seemingly robust move set will be overpowered, though we will find out when he launches for early access on June 18.
In addition to showing Shang Tsung, the trailer confirmed several datamined characters. These include Nightwolf, Sindel, Spawn from the comics of the same name and two other guest spots, which fans are guessing will be Ash Williams and The Terminator.
Even though Bruce Campbell, the actor best known as playing Ashley J. Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, noted he would not appear in Mortal Kombat 11, there is certainly a lot of things pointing to it being true. Whether you believe the datamined information or not, four of the nine characters have now been confirmed. Even if you write off Nightwolf and Sindel as easy guesses, Spawn was among the characters mentioned. Given the trailer ends with a chainsaw sound, it seems like a safe bet.
Fans have also noted the final bit, where the characters names are revealed, sounds reminiscent of the popular Terminator franchise. This isn’t as simple as Ash but it should be exciting regardless.
