Money in Red Dead Redemption 2 can go a long way if Arthur Morgan has a lot. With lots of money, Arthur Morgan can do a variety of things with it like donating to upgrade the camp, buying new outfits, or stock up with items that he will be needing later. Unfortunately, getting money is quite scarce.
Aside from looting and receiving it as a reward, one of the ways to earn lots of money in the game, that is without cheating, is through treasure hunts. If you love exploring, you will be pleased to know that the game has several treasure hunt maps that you get to pick up. There’s no guide or hint that will tell you on where to get the map, unless you are really searching for everything.
One of the hard treasure hunts that I did is the Poisonous Trail that nets you with four Gold Bars if you end up finishing it. Going from one place to another is quite painful, unless you have the fast travel already unlocked. Expect to spend an hour at least for this treasure map as you will most likely be traveling with your horse.
Without further ado, here’s how to clear the The Poisonous Trail treasure hunt:
Locating the first map
To initiate The Poisonous Trail treasure hunt, you must find first the first treasure map. It’s located in the Cairn Lake – in the camp of a gang where you have to find Flaco Hernandez.
Inside the cabin of the gang’s camp, you will find a lockbox. Open it and you will get bunch of items including the first treasure map for the Poisonous Trail treasure hunt. Inspect it as you wish. You are now ready for the second map.
Locating the second map
The second map is located a little bit north from Rhodes. If you are in Valentine, rent for a stage coach to fast travel you to the Rhodes and put a marker on the location on the screenshot above.
You will know that you are in the area if you find yourself in somewhat of an elevated land. Look for broken trees with a pocket hole at the bottom to find the second map.
Now onto the third and final map.
Locating the final map
The final map is located just below the R of the New Hanover in the map. Look at the screenshot above to find its location.
You will come across a patch off land with bunch of rocks, that looks like a skin of a snake, with a hole in the middle. Reach into that hole to get the third and final map.
Now that you have all three maps, it’s time to piece it together to locate the treasure where the four gold bars await.
The Final Challenge
The location where the four gold bars await lies behind the waterfalls in Elysian Pool. The waterfall is located just above the E and R of the Hanover text in your map. Look at the screenshot above to know its location.
As soon as you spot the waterfall, head inside.
Behind the waterfall is somewhat of a dungeon that you need to explore. Equip your lantern as the areas ahead is dark.
As soon as you pass through the narrow passage, look for a road leading you further below the area. Look at the ground to your right and when you see a passage leading you down, go to it.
When you find yourself at the bottom, crouch. Along the walls is a small area where you can enter.
Past the area where you have to crouch is a fork road. Take the path to the right to come across an abandoned camp. There is a lockbox here where you can loot off a chunk of jewel.
After getting the jewel, head back to the fork road and take the other path. Once you reach of an area where there’s a cliff where you can fall below and a small area where you can enter, sprint and jump. If done incorrectly, you will slide through and fall to your death.
If you reached the bottom area successfully, slide off to the other side and you will come across a small puddled area. Go through it and along the rocks is something you can search. The four gold bar awaits.
Sell the Four Gold Bars
Now that you have the four gold bars, retrace your steps and go sell it at the nearest Fence in town to receive your $2,000!
