Sony has announced that it will be replicating the success of the NES Classic and SNES Classic by releasing its own PlayStation Classic mini console. The device will be released on December 3rd, 2018.
Sony made the announcement for the PlayStation Classic mini console over on the PlayStation Blog. Much like Nintendo’s consoles, the game will be pre-loaded with 20 games that you can play straight out of the box.
Sadly not every game has been announced, but a small selection was revealed today. The games you can play on the console include Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms. Obviously more games will be announced so hopefully the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Ape Escape and more games are added to this collection too.
The PlayStation Classic console is 45% smaller than the original PSOne console. It’s worth mentioning the design of the console is based on the original PlayStation and not of the redesigned PSOne console that came out a few years later.
The price of the device in North America is $99.99 and it comes with the console, HDMI cable and two controllers for you to do multiplayer action in compatible titles. More announcements about the PlayStation Classic will be revealed in the coming months so stay tuned.
Hopefully Sony does the right thing and stocks a lot of these consoles so everyone can get one for Christmas 2018. Nintendo did not anticipate the demand for the NES Classic as they sold out quickly leaving many people sad that they didn’t get it. Eventually more consoles were made, but some people had to wait a year later.
The only disappointing thing about the classic PSOne is that it will not come with its own AC adapter. This means you will need to charge the device with your own USB power slot.
