Spider-Man only came out last Friday, but the game is already breaking lots of sales records in 2018. In the UK, the Marvel video game is the fastest selling game o the entire year!
As reported by GameIndustry.biz, Marvel’s Spider-Man beat out Far Cry 5 to be the fastest selling game in the UK all year long. This is very impressive since Far Cry 5 came out on multiple platforms including the PC and Xbox One. Spidey on the other hand is just a PS4 exclusive.
It has also been reported that Spider-Man sold double the amount of units that God of War sold at its launch back in April 2018. At this rate, Spidey could be the best selling PS4 exclusive of 2018 if the game sells well in the coming weeks to come. However, Spidey faces more competition since Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out next week that might slow some sales down. Not to mention there’s a ton of other video games to look forward to in October too!
Anyway, Marvel’s Spider-Man is the fastest-selling Marvel-branded game in history beating out LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Again, this is impressive since the latter game was out on more than one platform.
The report also says the game is the fastest selling one since the PS4 version of Call of Duty: WWII came out last year. The only game that Spidey did not beat is the launch sales of Batman: Arkham Knight back in 2015.
That said, sales only count physical purchases at UK retailers. Digital sales aren’t counted so the number of copies Spider-Man sold could be higher. Spidey is likely going to do well in the weeks to come since word of mouth is really strong.
