One of the biggest challenges in Marvel’s Spider-Man is Taskmaster’s challenges. Everyone focuses on different mechanics, typically the trick is not immediately obvious and some can feel impossible until you know what to do. Even if the challenges suck, the reward is the opportunity to fight Taskmaster, some additional story and a trophy.
Taskmaster Challenges
There are four challenge, each with their own distinct tactic needed to win. Thankfully, players don’t need to get the highest rank in every event to fight Taskmaster or even unlock all the items/platinum (it’s around 80 percent overall), though they’re not too bad with the right tactic.
Build
Before bothering with the tasks I strongly suggest having as many gadgets and skills as possible. This is because they can make a substantial difference on time, ranging from how quickly you take out a foe to chasing after an objective.
Stealth
Out of the four, stealth is the most deceptive. The idea isn’t to actually take down every foe without getting caught, but rather, use web in a creative way. To achieve the best times you just need to learn where every enemy is and take them out as quickly as possible. This can often by done by using traps, bombs and impact webs at the right angle. And, once everyone is taken care of, just strike the last enemy for your time. If it’s not good enough, keep working on the timing/positioning and eventually it’ll be super easy.
Drone
Drone challenges are probably the worst, since it doesn’t matter which path you take, it just has to eventually lead through every spy cam, while also keeping within close proximity. The latter is the hardest part, since it isn’t actually possible to max rank any of these events if you’re not fast enough. What will happen is the drone will slow down so you don’t immediately lose, resulting in it not hitting the objective in time, making it impossible to hit your goal. The only solution is to just do it faster, though speed can’t make up for missing a single cam.
Bombs
Bombs are the same basic concept as drone, except you have a lot more control over it. The best tactic is to always set yourself up in a position where you’ll be able to launch to where the bomb is and hold down the correct input before even landing. This should immediately throw or at least start the grab, to which you should be ready to move to the next location before the bomb even goes off. They’ll take a fair bit of practice, though it’s 100 percent dependent on speed.
Combat
Combat is, by a wide margin, the easiest. All you need to do is use web to quickly defeat everyone. It will take some practice to get right, but using traps and bombs is essential. Holding square and then holding triangle is also probably the easiest move to quickly defeat someone that is already webbed. Outside of that, a well placed bomb and then the air push move can defeat three or four enemies in a matter of seconds. You really shouldn’t have any issues with this challenge unless you’re fighting or get confused easily.
Finding Taskmaster
Once you’ve completed enough events Taskmaster will find you. This will prompt a fight, one where you need to take it slow.
Fighting Taskmaster
In a lot of ways Taskmaster is the hardest boss. The issue is, dodging his attacks isn’t enough to create an opening and it’s the one fight where good defense the only way to succeed. The best tactic is to either dodge until you manage to web him and strike or wait for him to do something that gives you an opening to grab an item to throw at him. It might take some getting use to but if you use the same basic tactics needed to survive the challenges, you should be able to defeat him the second time you meet.
