Rockstar Games has just released the first gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, their upcoming western themed open world video game.
Being an introduction to the world and the main character the video shows off a range of stunning looking shootouts, a huge variety of locations from boggy spawns and snow covered mountain routes to small towns and a desert. Originally announced back in 2016 the game is only looking better each time it is shown off, and it seems Rockstar is taking the open world aspect of the game very seriously. Rockstar are keen to point out that this gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 was “captured entirely from in-game footage” plus it is available to view in 4K!
The game is being developed on Rockstar Studio’s own RAGE engine, short for the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. Set in a huge open world in 1899, players will take up the role of an outlaw named Arthur Morgan. As a member of the Van der Linde gang, Morgan will have to provide for the gang as well as receiving missions from them. Interestingly, the “Honor” system from Red Dead Redemption returns. This system sees non-player characters react differently to the protagonist depending on actions that the player has taken. This is somewhat touched upon in the video, with a few potential choice situations shown off.
The team teases at the end of the video that the next trailer will feature mission content and more! Red Dead Redemption 2 currently planned for release on October 26, 2018. The title will only be launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with no mention of a PC release.
It has already been confirmed that downloadable content will be on the way. More mission will be added, though as we reported earlier in the year, these DLC missions will not be part of the main story.
