OnRush is a new racing video game made by many of the same developers that worked on the PS4’s Driveclub. Sadly though, it looks like the game under-performed and many staff members have been laid off by Codemasters.
As reported by Eurogamer, multiple sources have confirmed that many senior members that worked on OnRush have been let go from Codemasters. This even includes Paul “Rushy” Rustchynsky who was already laid off by Sony a few years ago when Evolution Studios shut its doors.
Codemasters will just be allocating existing team members to assist on other games or they will just work on less risky IPs. OnRush was pretty risky since it was an all new IP that gamers were not familiar with.
It’s being reported the game only sold just over 1000 physical copies in the UK when it launched and it failed to reach the top of the gaming charts. Its highest position was just 34th during its launch week and it was never seen again.
You have to feel sorry for those affected by the layoffs. Hopefully those that have been affected are able to find stable work in the near future.
