A few weeks ago there was a report in Japan that Nintendo were set to release Nintendo Switch consoles without the dock. For Japanese gamers, the Switch costs a lot less money if they choose to buy the system without the dock. Sadly, it looks like this version of the console will stay exclusive in Japan.
Website US Gamer received a statement from Nintendo America and they confirmed there are no plans to release the dock-free Nintendo Switch in other countries. No other comment than that was given so it sounds like only Japan can buy the console like that.
It will be interesting to see if Nintendo ever changes its mind due to high demand. Not everyone wishes to play the Switch on a TV as it’s basically just a portable device. The main reason Japan gets the option is because portable gaming is still pretty huge in the country.
Hopefully Nintendo changes its mind on the decision and an announcement is made next month at E3 2018. After all, they could get more sales if the price of the Switch drops by removing the TV dock.
