Video game movie Rampage is out this weekend in cinemas and critics have reviewed the movie already. The Rotten Tomatoes rating has been revealed and it looks like its getting the same mixed reception that Tomb Raider received last month.
As seen on Rotten Tomatoes, the current rating for Rampage is exactly at 50 percent. 23 reviews for the film give it a positive rating while another 23 reviews give it a negative rating. The average score of the film is 5.4/10 meaning a lot of reviewers are giving it 2 or 3 stars out of 5.
The critics consensus says: “Rampage isn’t as fun as its source material, but the movie’s sheer button-mashing abandon might satisfy audiences in the mood for a brainless blockbuster.”
It feels as if some reviewers don’t mind the brainless action, while others don’t like the B movie quality of it. The mixed reception for the movie is different to the positive reviews Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson got for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. That film made over $900 million at the Box Office.
Rampage is estimated to make around $36 million or $37 million in North America in its opening weekend. This is not bad for a video game movie as it’s higher than the opening weekend of Tomb Raider. That said, the mixed reviews might impact the movie’s long term value. Rampage only has two weeks to dominate the Box Office until Avengers: Infinity War drops on April 27th.
