eSports and competitive gaming has exploded over the years becoming a legit sport where professional players can earn lots of money by playing video games. It has become so big, video game companies all over the world are now realizing its popularity with many games having competitive modes being put into them.
Sony has now posted a job listing on Gamasutra in hopes to find a Director in competitive gaming. The job is located in San Mateo, CA and you can read a description for the game posted down below.
“Competitive Gaming is an exciting and burgeoning space within the landscape of gaming. As one of the leaders of the gaming industry, PlayStation is focused on the eSports business both regionally and globally as a part of the strategic outlook on the future of gaming. The Director, Competitive Gaming will be a senior member of this initiative, responsible for not only assisting in the creation of the overall strategy, but heavily in its execution. This position will touch all aspects of the initiative from coordinating regional activities to assisting the activation of global sponsorships. This person will also help to build the overall infrastructure, determining and allocating resource needs, global/ regional governance, cross-functional partnership and advocacy, and being the right-hand person to the Global Vice President of Competitive Gaming with all other functions.”
You need to have a lot of experience for this job so people new to the game industry may want to seek another position. This is because Sony requires the candidate to have at least over 8 years of prior experience in the video game industry plus over 3 years of experience in eSports.
