Sega of America CEO, Ivo Gerscovich, has expressed in a new interview some more details on the company’s plan for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Hopes are very high that this film can finally break the evil video game movie curse.
Ivo Gerscovich was interviewed by ComicBook.com recently and he commented about the progress being made for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. You can read his comments down below.
“Yes, we believed strongly that the Sonic brand needed to be treated in the right way. Having the opportunity to work with such an amazingly talented production team with such a strong track record (like the Fast and the Furious films and the Deadpool movie) made the decision an exciting one for SEGA to take.”
Being “treated the right way” is important because past video game movies have always ditched the source material. The 1993 Super Mario Bros movie and the Street Fighter film from 1994 looked nothing like the video games!
Gerscovich also further commented below on the unique look of the movie. If you did not know already, the film is going to be a hybrid of live action and animated CGI.
“The film-makers have a very unique and exciting vision in mind for the story, and we can’t wait to see how this blend of CGI/live action comes to life on the big screen!”
We’ve seen this type of movie before as seen in the likes of Garfield, Stuart Little, Ted and even The Smurfs movie. Hopefully Sonic the Hedgehog can be an awesome movie when it comes out sometime in the near future.
