Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Gets Snubbed From EVO 2018 Games Lineup

EVO is an annual fighting game tournament and is regarded to be the best and biggest one in the world. The tournament’s organizers have now announced the games that will be in this year, and one big notable omission has been noticed by the fighting game community.

The EVO 2018 tournament will include the following video games: Tekken 7, Injustice 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Obviously the biggest snub is that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is nowhere to be found. The game came out last year, although reception for the game was not rosy. Many members of the fighting game community did not like the lack of X-Men characters, the graphics and tons of other things.

This is actually the first time in EVO history that a Marvel vs. Capcom game of any kind won’t be making an appearance. Last year, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was in it, but presumably the much more popular Dragon Ball FighterZ has now taken its place.

The snub of MvC should come as a big disappointment for Capcom as the Marvel brand is still strong thanks to the movies doing well at the Box Office. Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite was supposed to kick-start Marvel video games in a new way, but sadly it failed to connect with audiences.

It will be interesting to see how Capcom will support Infinite in the future if there are still people playing it. The lack of tournament exposure could mean the game will be dropping its player count dramatically.

Anyway, EVO 2018 takes place on August 3rd, 2018 to August 5th, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you cannot be there in person, you can always catch all of the fighting gameplay when it’s streamed online around the world.
