2017 was not really the most eventful year for the Xbox One aside from the release of the Xbox One X. Microsoft was criticized for most of the year due to its lack of console exclusives. However, in December 2017 the early access release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) made people notice.
PUBG became a worldwide phenomenon on PC amassing millions and millions of players throughout the entire year. The game popularized the Battle Royale genre with many other games copying its success. While the PC version is finally out of Early Access status, the game is still in preview mode on Xbox One.
Despite not being officially released as a full game, this has not stopped the Xbox One version of PUBG being popular. It’s only been one month since the game came out as a preview title on Xbox One and Microsoft has announced that the game now has over 3 million players on consoles.
It’s safe to say it is quickly becoming one of the most played games on Xbox Live despite the game still needing to be optimized. Several updates have been released to make sure the game runs smoothly.
At launch, the Xbox One version of PUBG was kind of messy. The graphics failed to load up textures and it was running at a framerate far lower than 30fps on both Xbox One and the more powerful Xbox One X. Thankfully, updates have made the game much better to play although a lot work still needs to be done.
As of right now, the console version of the game still only has the one map. PC players have an additional map, although this will not be available to Xbox One gamers until sometime later this year.
