Fox’s Alien movie franchise is popular, although its recent efforts have had mixed opinions. Video game Alien: Colonial Marines was a critical and commercial flop while the movies Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are polarizing at best.
The only recent effort from the Alien franchise that has been successful was the 2014 video game release of Alien Isolation. The survivor horror game was innovative at the time and felt true to the movie franchise. Well now it sounds like another video game is on its way based on the popular movie series.
As reported by Polygon, FoxNext Games is developing a new game based on the franchise, although it sounds like it will be much different to Isolation. This is because the new game will be a more traditional style shooting game expected to be released on both PC and consoles.
A press release stated that FoxNext Games acquired Cold Iron Studios in order to make AAA video game experiences. Since this game is likely going to be an FPS, hopefully this new effort turns out far better than Alien: Colonial Marines.
This new video game is the only new announcement from the Alien movie franchise recently. Thanks to Alien Covenant under-performing at the Box Office last year, 20th Century Fox has yet to announce anymore movies. The franchise is further put on hold with Disney due to acquire the majority’s of Fox’s assets within the next year or two.
Anyway, hopefully Alien movie fans won’t have to wait long for another video game based on the franchise. It’s already nearly four years since the release of Alien Isolation back in 2014. God knows when the new game will be out, but it’s unlikely going to be released in 2018 since its announcement was only made public today.
