This past year there were three big fighting games and multiple characters added to another huge franchise. While there is no denying Street Fighter V has come a long way, none of the new characters make up for what it’s missing. Capcom’s other big fighter, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, isn’t a bad fighter, it’s just not as good as previous entries and missing beloved characters. This leaves Injustice 2 and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev. 2.
While Injustice 2 is a fantastic game, with some stellar DLC choices, it’s not enough to topple Guilty Gear Xrd Rev. 2. What stands out is how user friendly it is. Guilty Gear has never been the most accessible fighter, so having plenty of training, explanations and even descriptions go a long way. From there, the new character is the perfect mix between silly and serious, with the other being someone beloved from the past. Combine this with a legitimately interesting story and it’s easy to see what makes this fighter stand out.
