When do you go back for skills you left behind?
Before we talk about survivors, it’s important to know when to return to old trees. For skills, you want to unlock the third one and get the survivors and useful things out of it first. It’s likely a long time before you’ll gain access to the fourth and currently final tree, so upon getting the most important stuff, clean up previous areas and then build up that one. Or if you have everything you want, like no one needs the defender slots, you can save them up for the fourth one. Just make sure you obtain all the attribute points before storing for the last one.
Tech is far more straightforward. After getting the survivor slots for the second one, return to the previous one and get the missing skills. They’re much cheaper and yield equal to better results. You also don’t need the transformation or exploration perks if you don’t plan on bothering with them. At most, it’s nice to have the trap one for manuals, but the rest are not worth it if you don’t want rare items.
How the Survivor System Works
The survivor system has a number of elements that determine value. The first is rarity, then personality and for normal survivors they have an unlockable ability and leads have a job type. The most important thing is to match lead survivors with their jobs. The only exception is if the rarity between the two leads is great. So if you have a rare with the job type and an extra epic without it, the rare is better, but the legendary should beat it.
After selecting a lead, you want to pick rarity and then try to match personalities. This will give them a slight boost, but not enough to make a lower rarity better. Ideally you can match bonuses, but they’re not important enough to break rarity.
The last thing to consider is figuring out which perks and abilities you want to increase. In my case, I could probably level if I changed my build to match personalities, but this would make my defense much stronger than my offense, making my character less effective overall. So if you want more defense, better traps or offense, make sure to prioritize them getting the right things before bothering with others and possibly not changing things that can negatively impact them.
