Sony has released its latest financial report and the company says it has now shipped over 57.1 million PS4 units in total. This is all thanks to a strong Holiday period.
During Q3 FY16 (October 1 until December 31st), Sony shipped a healthy 9.7 million units of the PS4 console. This quarter is amazing because the previous high for Sony was when the PS2 shipped 8.8 million units in one quarter back in 2003.
The Holiday period may have had some help thanks to the new Slim and Pro models hitting the market. The Pro is the first console that allows people to play games in 4K.
Sony also saw an increase in software sales. Sony says this is all thanks to people buying more games on the PlayStation Network and the release of the PlayStation VR unit.
With 57.1 million PS4 units shipped worldwide, Sony may reach its goal of shipping 60 million units before the end of March 31st, 2017. It’s a doable goal since Horizon: Zero Dawn is out soon.
