Activision has sadly let go of some if its employees today in key development studios. This is despite the publisher reaching its financial targets last quarter.
As reported by Kotaku, the publisher let go of some employees from Infinity Ward, Beenox, other internal studios and some people from the corporate office too.
No number was given, but it was noted that around 5 percent of the publisher’s workforce were let go today. Luckily none of Blizzard’s divisions were hit with the sad outcome.
Activision said to Kotaku: “Activision Publishing is realigning our resources to support our upcoming slate and adapt to the accelerating transition to digital, including opportunities for digital add-on content.”
Kotaku speculates that the reason employees were let go was due to the disappointing result of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. A source said 20 employees from Infinity Ward alone were let go. It’s also mentioned that Activision’s 2017 slate looks slim as only two games have been announced. This is Destiny 2 and Call of Duty 2017.
