PlayStation VR Shipment Forecasts Slashed By Gaming Research Company

PlayStation VR

Statista and gaming research company SuperData have updated their VR headset shipment forecast painting a bad picture for Sony and the PlayStation VR.

While the shipment forecasts made for Samsung’s Gear VR, HTC and Valve’s Vive and Facebook’s Oculus Rift have remained unchanged, revisions have been made for both PlayStation VR and Daydream. The revised figure for PlayStation VR still sits above both the Vive and Oculus, however it has been drastically reduced. Decreasing the forecasted shipments, from 2.6 million to only 0.75 million, is a bold statement by SuperData.

Clearly they do not believe that Sony’s VR offering is set to tempt the consumers as much. This is potentially due to the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, with some customers having to choose between the VR headset and the new 4K console. Note these are shipment forecasts and do not represent sales. This being said it is hard to sell something that hasn’t been shipped.
