Nielsen have published their Holiday 2016: Most Anticipated Video Games report, and Nintendo’s Pokémon has topped the charts. Not only are Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon ranked atop the charts for Nintendo 3DS exclusive releases for the 2016 holiday shopping season, the two titles are also the highest ranked titles across all platforms with a staggering anticipation level of 99% for Pokémon Moon, with Pokémon Sun trailing behind in second with an equally impressive 98% rank.
Other notable titles that topped their respective charts are: Paper Mario: Color Splash for Wii U, which received a rank of 92%. The highest ranked Xbox One exclusive release of the 2016 holiday season is Gears of War 4, which garnered 99%; while the highest PS4 exclusive release – Batman Arkham VR, came in with a rank of 95%.
Multiplatform releases paint an interesting picture as Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinity War each earned an anticipation level of 96%. The long-awaited Final Fantasy XV followed closely behind at 95% with Watch Dogs 2 rounding off the Top 8 at 75%.
As noted by Nielsen: The percentage given to each game reflects how strong the anticipation level is for the title, relative to the pre-release anticipate levels of all previous titles release on the platform. Data was collected by surveying 6,000 gamers age 7 to 54 between Aug. 21, 2016 – Sept. 24, 2016.
