After the terrible history with games that Game of Thrones has had thus far, fans of the books and TV series were ecstatic when Telltale Games announced that they were developing a game based on the series. We’ve known very little about the game so far, outside of it having a scheduled release of later this year, but now a few more details have been revealed about the game courtesy of Telltale.
In an interview with Digital Trends, Telltale CEO Dan Connors spoke about how the game will run concurrently with the TV series rather than as a prequel or in an entirely different universe. We knew it would be somewhat related to the TV series, but now we have a little more information on how.
It’s not a prequel. I think the show provides a timeline, but the world is huge.
There’s so much going on and it’s so rich. Every decision that King Joffrey makes impacts so many people. Any microcosm in that world [looking at how] people are affected by the decisions that are made plays out across the whole thing.
The show does a great job of interpreting George R.R. Martin’s work, and his work provides a huge dictionary of knowledge about what the franchise is,” Connors explained. “It’s really a dream to sit down and say, ‘What’s our space in this world? Where are we in this world?’ And the world offers you so much to explore.
Look for Game of Thrones later this year, and don’t forget that the TV series returns a week from Sunday on HBO.
