We already knew that Nintendo would be holding a Nintendo Direct later today after being announced yesterday. Even with the Direct scheduled, many thought we might see the announcement of the return of Diddy Kong with today’s new Super Smash Bros. update due to the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in Japan today.
However, that was not the case as Masahiro Sakurai took the opportunity to tease the already announced Nintendo Direct, which seems to tell us that there must be some sort of announcement related to Super Smash Bros. within.

Sakurai also included the above image, which doesn’t really show off too much. Will the potential update be something more expected like Diddy Kong, or something non-Donkey Kong related like Palutena? Could we even see a speculated Diddy Kong/Dixie Kong tag team announced for the game as a fighter? We will just have to wait and see.
