Retro Studios Calls Wii U A ‘Powerhouse’ While Teasing New Game

Ever since the Wii U released back in 2012, one of the knocks on the system has been a lack of power, with it being more on par with the last generation of consoles. This has been seen to be even more the case with the release of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One a few months ago, but Nintendo first-party developer Retro Studios greatly disagrees with the notion that the console is underpowered.

In an interview with Gamespot, Retro Studios President and CEO, Michael Kelbaugh, gave his thoughts on the latest Nintendo console.

Unfortunately, the perception is that it’s not a very powerful machine. That’s just not true. It’s a powerhouse. It’s more than adequate to make great games on.

Kelbaugh goes further to explain how much better the experience has been developing for the Wii U rather than the Wii, due to the HD capabilities of the new system. Also of note is that Retro is already hard at work on their next game, as Kelbaugh says they haven’t been just been sitting idly by since they finished working on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze back in November.

What would you most like to see from Retro Studios at this point? A new Metroid Prime game? A third Donkey Kong Country game from the developer? Or something brand new?
