Sony’s Sly Cooper Is Headed To The Big Screen

Sly Cooper

Very early this morning we told you about a tease for a big announcement that Sony had for today. Most assumed it would be a game announcement or something about the PlayStation 4 itself perhaps, but Sony shocked everyone by announcing an upcoming movie instead, based on the Sly Cooper franchise.

Sly Cooper first debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2002 and quickly grew as one of Sony’s best platforming options. Now the series is heading to the big screen in the form of a full CG movie that will release in early 2016 from Blockade Entertainbment. Rainmaker, the Vancouver-based company, will be handling most of the CGI work for the movie, while Blockade Entertainment will be working closely with series creator Sucker Punch to ensure a quality product.

Blockade Entertainment has also been working on CG movies based on the Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank franchises, so this isn’t their first look at gaming. Heavenly Sword is schedule for a digital release later this year, while Ratchet & Clank is set for a theatrical release in early 2015, so the company has a pretty busy slate coming up over the next few years.

The first teaser trailer for the Sly Cooper CG movie can be seen below:

  1. I remember playing sly as a kid with my older sister and brother. Now my younger brother plays the games with me. It’s a special game among my sisters and brothers so this movie is exciting. I can’t wait to visit my little bro (he’s 10) and tell him about this! It also gives me a reason to see an animated movie without looking weird lol :D
