A representative from Sony has commented on the issue that some gamers are having with the rubber on DUALSHOCK 4 controllers.
Some gamers felt the rubber wore off too quickly on the analog sticks. This is a problem that never occurred on previous PlayStation DUALSHOCK controllers.
eGamer received an email the PR company that represents Sony in South Africa and here’s what was said:
A very small number of users have reported to us that the rubber surface of their Wireless Controller (DUAKSHOCK®4)’s analogue sticks have torn. Although the rubber material of the analogue sticks fulfils our quality assurance standard, we will inspect individual DUALSHOCK®4 controllers experiencing this symptom, and will replace them with new ones for free as long as they are within the warranty.
This is great news. If you feel that the rubber from the DUALSHOCK 4 controller is wearing off, you may be entitled to a replacement.
