Activision Blames Console Transition To Lower Call of Duty: Ghosts Sales

Activision reckons the console transition this year is the main reason Call of Duty: Ghosts didn’t sell as well as previous games.

Game Informer asked Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg if the declining sales was due to series fatigue in the latest issue. Hirschberg reckons the annual release of Call of Duty is not the reason and that the fact the PS4 and Xbox One’s releases is to blame for Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ “lower” sales.

We’ve been pretty transparent all year that we think, because of the challenges of the console transition year, that that was likely in the short-term. I think it would be a mistake to conflate the challenges of the console transition year with any indications about the health of the franchise.

He also reckons the fans love the annual franchise and don’t mind that Call of Duty games are out each year. Call of Duty: Ghosts may have sold less than other games in the series, but it’s still a top seller being the most bought game on both the PS4 and Xbox One.
