After nearly eight years, it is finally time to say goodbye to the Xbox Live Marketplace, in name at least. Ever since the Xbox 360 launched, the game section has been using the same name, but with the changeover to local currency and the upcoming release of the Xbox One, Microsoft must have felt it was time for a change.
In what is now titled the Xbox Games Store, gamers will find the exact same content as before. The name is just a way to streamline the area to fit better alongside the other areas, such as the Video Store and Music Store. Considering how broad of a term marketplace is, the new name definitely fits much better alongside the others.
When asked about the reason for the change, Microsoft said it was done to make it easier for gamers to find the content they want on both their current generation and next generation consoles. With the new Xbox Games Store name, this should be an easy feat to accomplish.
The Xbox One will be released sometime this November.
