Microsoft put gaming publishers “on the map” yesterday when the company somewhat finally clarified the Xbox One’s policy on used games. The blame has now been shifted to the game publisher themselves.
Gamespot contacted many game publishers on the matter to see their what their policy will be regarding used games on the Xbox One:
Bethsda – “We haven’t had time to fully understand and evaluate their policy.”
Sega – “We are currently discussing within Sega policies relating to the new generation of consoles. As soon as these have been agreed upon with all concerned partners we will make the information public.”
Konami – “We have nothing official to share at this time.”
Ubisoft – “We’re just now getting more information about Microsoft’s plan and starting to examine what it means for our games. We don’t have anything new to share right now, but rest assured we’ll continue to focus on providing the best experience for our customers no matter how or where they buy our games.”
With that being said, it looks like gaming publishers themselves are not sure what to do at this stage. Activision and EA chose not to respond to Gamespot’s questions.
It will be interesting to see how this will all unfold when the Xbox One launches later this year. Which gaming publisher will be kind enough to allow gamers to continue playing used game like normal? Will any of them downright ban used games?

June 8, 2013 at 9:16 AMwell, I buy used game when the game is not that great like to spend the total amount of money, that affect me on some point but, all depends on the mechanics of buying and selling on used games and I will be happy in another point because gamestop deceive with prices for example…you sell them a game for $3 and then they sell it for $15 they are earning 3 time the price of unit bought and that’s not fair, that’s why I not buy used games at Gamestop.
