Combat
Minds Eye:
One of the most useful, but rarely used skills in the game is minds eye. This is performed by simply pushing down on your dpad and will allow you to see things in a more “spiritual” way. While there aren’t many uses for the skill, it does have the following uses.
- Can find “hidden” essence.
- Shows you locations to either craft or regain offerings.
- Highlights things you can save / sacrifice and gives you an idea of when they’re about to go bad. Blue is good, purple is last chance.
- Gives you an indication of how much life something has. While I don’t know the exact percent’s, I assume it changes every 25%, so lets just go off that. Green is 75%+, Yellow is 50%+, Orange is 25%+ and Red is 24% or less.
- Breakable boss parts, which glow orange.
- 10 points towards your ranking.
How to “Properly” Fight Bosses:
When you first start playing Soul Sacrifice, you probably picked your offerings based off simple things, like number of casts or damage. Let me start by saying this might work at the start, but you will not be able to rely on this forever (unless someone you know does the work for you). The first thing you should think about is practicality / rate of fire.
Early on I was using an Irondrake Egg (L), which was awesome because it had 260 for power and 11 casts. However, the egg had a number of drawbacks I wasn’t quite aware of. The first drawback was preventing my partners from attacking the boss. Since the egg is part of the explosive family, every hit had a chance of distrupting what my allies were doing. Not only is this counter productive, it makes you look like a real ass (also don’t use Soldier’s Ember, no one liked Carnatux). The other and more important reason was the DPS speed. While 260 sounds like a lot on paper, you waste time aiming it, finding the target, plus the casting is pretty slow. When compared to the Throw category (Iron Pinwheel’s and the like), you can actually do more damage over time, despite the items only having a mere 35 attack (this is for a Large like the egg).
Once you figure out what you want to use, I suggest you start making elemental versions of these items. There are really two ways to go about making elemental versions. The first is to get all the types (ideally the full 5) up to (L) three star tier and equipping them for every mission. The second method is to obtain several (L) tier versions of the same item and equipping a few types and maybe a duplicate or two of whatever the boss is weak against or you like to use. Once you do that, you can start to exploit skillful attacks.
Skillful Attacks:
As you can most likely guess, skillful attacks are a key element to completely dominating virtually every boss in the game. To perform a skillful attack, you need to first get the boss in a hell state. To do this, simply hit the boss with the same element a bunch of times in a row. Once the boss is stunned (what the hell state is), attack it for a few seconds and then switch to the element the stun is weak to. The second that element hits the boss, the hell state will be voided and the boss will be knocked down. In addition to that, you can start working on getting them in the next elements hell and repeating this cycle till you run out of casts or the boss dies. If performed correctly, you should be able to kill most bosses without them even moving using this method. To further assist you, the chart below tells you which elements beat out another element.
- Heat > Venom
- Frost > Heat
- Volt > Frost
- Stone > Volt
- Venom > Stone
Despite this being an amazing way to dominate a given boss, there are some drawbacks. The first is that a partner using another element can make it harder to stun a boss. According to Kiko this is possible and I have since verified it’s possible to get the same hell a third time on a boss. However, getting that third hell required an absurd amount of resources and is just not worth going after if you have any other elemental weapon on your person at the time.
Boss Weaknesses:
As mentioned before, several bosses are weak to certain elements and are significantly easier to stun in that given element. While this isn’t true for every boss, the chart below should give you an idea of what to use when. Please note, I do believe this list is completely accurate, but if you find an error please inform me so I can correct it.
- Valkyrie – Stone
- Hydra – Fire
- Cyclops – Nothing
- Leviathan – Nothing
- Griffin – Nothing
- Wyvern – Nothing
- Pegasus – Volt
- Slime – Nothing
- Cerberus – Rock
- Minotaur – Nothing, but I guess his axe is weak to volt
- Kraken – Volt
- Elven Queen – Fire
- Siren – Volt
- Centaur – Ice
- Gargoyle – Poison
- Harpy – Fire
- Jack-o’-Lantern – Ice
- Jack Frost – Volt
- Unicorn – Volt
- Phoenix – Ice
- Werewolf – Ice
- Illecebra – Random
How to Defeat the Minotaur:
Contrary to every boss in the game (save the Leviathan), the Minotaur is quite a bit different. This is because you need to break his axe to even start the battle. Thankfully this is easier than it sounds. To break his axe, simply wait for him to move the axe away from his body and hit it with some sort of projectile. This should knock it out of his hands and will give you a chance to break it. Once you break his axe, it will remove his ability to heal himself and the Minotaur will start to attack you. From here the fight is pretty much standard fare, so don’t sweat it.
How to Defeat the Leviathan:
If you’ve never seen the Leviathan before, then you’re in for a shock, because this boss is huge. Needless to say, this also means his attacks are very tricky to dodge. Regardless, the Leviathan is doable if you know what to do.
To actually defeat the Leviathan, I strongly suggest you focus on dodging everything he throws at you. Be warned, this can be extremely difficult to accomplish, but you can use the Mole Claw to easily avoid his attacks. After a short whole, you will see this purple thing appear on the field. The second you see this, start attacking it and it will stun the Leviathan if you break it in time. At this point you can start to inflict some serious damage to him, so don’t squander this opportunity. Rinse and repeat till the boss is dead, though again, this is easier said than done.
How to Constantly Score Divine Sorcerer:
The highest ranking in Soul Sacrifice is Divine Sorcerer and should always be your goal. Not only because S ranking a mission is badass, but also because it gives you more drops than simply clearing said mission. Regardless of how good or bad you might be at the game, it’s actually fairly easy to hit Legendary or Divine if you know what to do.
As mentioned above, skillful attacks are a fantastic way to farm points. Every hell offers you 10 points (up to 50) and a skillful attack is another 60 (can only be earned once) for simply throwing elements at the boss. You can continue to rack of points by attacking cursed parts (this can also stop the boss from doing certain things) and you’ll get a significant bonus for breaking all the points. Finally you should beat these bosses with minimal to no damage with this method and will most likely earn a godspeed award. When all is said and done, this simple method should get you 400+ without even trying, which is usually the minimal for Divine Sorcerer.
More People, More Problems:
If you’re unfamiliar with this genre, then you probably don’t know the importance of having useful teammates. At first it might sound wise to have another person to distract / shield you from damage, but in a lot of cases this can be a hindrance. For every person that assists you (be it AI or Human), the bosses get (according to the Japanese) 1.2x more powerful than they were before. This also means it takes more time to stun them, less supplies to go around and another problem if they happen to die. Because of this, I strongly suggest you only play with people you think are capable of handling the mission or friends you don’t mind helping. I also suggest you keep this in mind offline, since most bosses are easier to solo than take down with another ally.
This covers pretty much everything you need to know for Soul Sacrifice, but obviously I can’t anticipate every question you might have. With this in mind, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to ask and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability. I can confirm I have defeated every boss, have most of the offerings, and of course already platinumed this game, so I should be able to answer any question you might have. Though please don’t ask about unique essences, since I don’t know which allies give which essence, nor do I know what monster / mission you need to save to get said person either.

Though I just want to mention that you could in fact inflict the same hell more than 2 times… I speak from experience since I have done it at least 4 times(same hell x4)… Though it is possible, you need at least 3 elemental offerings(root(tri), mine, blanket) plus the next element in the elemental wheel to get the Skillful attack.
Not bragging… just saying it could be done :)

I’m aware and have since verified you’re indeed correct. Since I am 100% on the dark side, I have always killed the bosses prior to getting the third hell, so that might be the issue. When I lowered my level a bit and used nothing but flames (+ 1 ice element to SA), I was able to get the third hell just before he died. Obviously it’s not worth going for unless you have to and I can’t imagine the resources required to hit the 4th hell, but good to know.
