After two successful games Record of Agarest War is back with another installment. With improvements to the SRPG gameplay and even some Move support, Record of Agarest War 2 sure sounds like a winner. However while improvements are always welcomed, is that enough to make the game relevant or is just a better version of a bad game?
Lets see what’s HOT and what’s NOT in our review of Record of Agarest War 2.
HOT
Engaging Gameplay
If you’re a fan of SRPG’s then you will most likely enjoy Record of Agarest War 2. Being an SRPG it’s self you can expect all the comment elements like turn based combat, sprites, special attacks, but there are also several unique elements too.
Easily the biggest highlight is how you actually attack. You see unlike most games where you simply give orders, Record of Agarest War turns attacking into something of a mini game. After you decide whom exactly you’re attacking you will be able to select an attack. Each input does different things, so one might knock someone in the air and another will knock them down, but they’re important to know so you can dominate your enemies.
Once you decide what input is best, you can either mash that button or delay your attacks for a bonus. If you decide to go with delaying your attacks, you will need to wait for a prompt to attack, so you can expect this to make the battle far more involved. Additionally you can select other characters in your party to continue on the attack. Finally if you do this correctly you will get an additional attack called an Ultimate Strike, which allows everyone to attack for more damage.
Fantastic Artwork and Sprites
One of the first things you will notice is how nice Record of Agarest War 2 looks. Most of the game has neat little designs and vivid colors, which really make it stand out. Additionally many of the games sprites have a lot of detail to them, so you it feels like a pretty high quality game. Beyond art, Record of Agarest War 2 also has a fantastic soundtrack.
Most scenes have a distinct song, which really brings the moment to life. For instance combat scenes have a more intense beat, so you can expect to feel some excitement from these scenes. Naturally other areas have the same feel like the menu feels mellow, fields sound optimistic, etc. Due to this you can expect a good feel throughout the game.
Same Concepts
When it comes to Record of Agarest War games, it’s well known that the series has some pretty sexy characters. In the case of this game, you can expect usual routine. Similar to the first game, Weiss meets several female characters that he can interact with. Based on the actions that you do, some female characters in the game might like you and others won’t. Since there are three generations that you go through, you can expect some sort of character interaction and yes, they do change depending on your play. As for the naughty side of the game, it’s still there, plus if you have a PS Move controller, you can play with them in a naughty way.
