It’s not every day that a company sells the rights to another company. However this one is from left field (sorta). If you’ve been keeping up, Irem has appeared to have some money problems. This lead to various home spaces and PS1 classics being removed from the PSN. Many Irem fans were worried this would mark the end of various series.
Some regions lucked out as Tozai Games decided to bring over the classic platformer, Spelunker. They were able to bring it to the US/EU at a far lower price than the Japanese counterpart. Interestingly enough, despite perceived low sales for Spelunker HD , they seem to have a lot of hope for the series.
There is so much hope that they plan on expanding the brand. This will be accomplished by moving the game to various other platforms, but the details surrounding that are minimal. However they’re planning a statement on December 16th. In the mean time you could always check out the PSN title. It is an extremely underrated classic that got many awards in Japan.
