Mike Capps the president of Epic Games has revealed surprising news about the company’s decision regarding developing for the PlayStation Vita.
Capps commented during a recent interview with gamesindustry.biz, “We’re not currently making a Vita game, I’m not sure how well it’s going to be accepted in our Western market which is primarily where our games sell”. To me that doesn’t sound like the developer has much confidence in Sony’s new portable device but let’s hope Sony can prove them wrong and gamers will soon be able to purchase titles from Epic for their PS Vita.
epic fail?
February 25, 2012 at 4:57 AMAnd that right there is why epic is sucking ass in game development..
pure stupidity. the vita is a remarkable machine, its not $$$$$$$ as people think (well at least the people who HAVE jobs dont htink its expensive…)
too many welfare bums and dropout lazy fucks whining its too expensive blah blah blah…
as for epics *no vita move*
good riddance.. make room for better games from better companies!

March 7, 2012 at 11:02 AMAgreed. The Vita is literally the most dazzling device i’ve ever had the pleasure of using, more so than my iPhone 4s or my iPad 2.
Epic is just a bunch of lazy and incredibly greedy developers. I’m sorry, but Unreal engine 3 or any of their past engines have impressed me anyway, Crytek on the other hand knows how to do engines. I personally will never invest anymore money into their company by purchasing their games if money is all they’re after.
I mean common, the Vita is surely super cheap to develop for and not to mention it’s chipset is extremely similar to the iphone and ipad 2’s, just double the configuration, so its not like they couldn’t easily do something.

March 7, 2012 at 8:37 PMthat really bums me out. what basis do they have to make such a drastic decision? god, i love my vita, i sure hope this doesn’t start a trend

March 10, 2012 at 11:58 AMI agree with the above comments. PS Vita is awesome and I don’t have any problem with it’s pricing right now (or any of th other complaints people are having based on this remarkable handheld). I played PSP for 7 year and was super psyched when Vita was announced. GTA Vita will come soon enough, along with a bunch of other great titles. Till then, I’m content playing the games I have: Uncharted, GTA VCS, Valhalla Knights, Worms Battle Islands, GTA Chinatown Wars, Prinny and Dungeon Hunter…. And there’s still so much to choose from! I could really care less about Epic’s choice not to make Vita titles. Good riddance!

March 24, 2012 at 8:43 AMthey should consider putting games on Vita,i’m sure this dude didn’t even played or used Vita, the first moment i use my Vita i knew it was heaven sent

March 25, 2012 at 10:07 PMI was unsure if the Vita would be worth every penny. However, my tax refund was perfect. And I have been loving this device.
I don’t understand why it seems so many people want it to fail. Is there something else out there that is more awesome?
Keep in mind I’m 35 and just not into the DS or 3DS… I like having beast technology. When I tried out the 3DS it felt like it would be great for younger folks and have some appeal to adults. But the VITA is a full-fledged beast and it’s right up my alley. I love mine … it’s way better than my phone or tablet.
I guess people are just broke these days… otherwise it just doesn’t make sense why people want to hate on it.

March 26, 2012 at 4:37 AMWhat a surprise, they finally have a true gaming platform capable of using the full software, not the half arsed piss poor attempt at an iPhone unreal engine, they decide they don’t want to make anything for it. They are Apple fanboys, it’s obvious, they claim they can’t use the unreal engine for the 3DS, but even the 3GS can use it so it’s obvious the 3DS can.
The Vita isn’t even failing, it’s selling steadily at the moment but that’s because the games don’t appeal to everyone. They need a better game library, I don’t think a price cut will be coming anytime soon seen as it’s only just came out and they are selling it at a loss already.

March 29, 2012 at 3:02 PMTo this day I have never owned a single game developed by Epic with the exception of games using their Unreal Engine. Looks like that trend will keep going for the foreseeable future.

April 14, 2012 at 3:57 PMThat simply means people who can afford to buy and have bought a PS VITA will be spending their money on games from other developers, plain and simple.

May 7, 2012 at 10:58 PMHonestly, Epic is definitely going to regret this later on in the future. So many great games for the Vita are coming out in the horizon. If these losers want to stick with their iOS format (and seeing as money is all they care about) I really could care less if they makes games for the Vita or not.
There are so many developers out there that truly see the Vita’s capabilities and amazing potential. It shows, They know it. Heck with the PlayStation Suite more developers (independent and dependent both) will finally be able to create what their heart and creativity influences them to do. That to me is all that matters.
The price for the Vita isn’t all that bad compared to other electronic devices out there that are more expensive. But that’s just me.

May 8, 2012 at 12:45 AMThe Vita has a nice OLED screen but like the PSP and PS3, having cutting edge technology doesn’t always result in success. In the case of Sony, they have been in a financial tailspin for quite some time now. Ridgggeee Racer is now the CEO of the company. It’s about games…always has been. I was looking at the Vita and 3DS and had plenty of money to buy both if I wanted to. I was really impressed with Street Fighter IV and Dead or Alive Dimensions, so I ended up buying those games and a 3DS. The Vita only had Marvel vs Capcom and Uncharted at launch. I had literally just finished Uncharted 3 on my PS3 so I was not interested in their lineup. I bought an iPad 3 and it can do a lot more than a Vita obviously, being more expensive. Between the fighting games on the 3DS and amazing screen on the iPad there is no room in my life for a Vita.

June 27, 2012 at 4:42 PMThis is why i cant wait for people to support developers like XSEED who really support the devicr just like us. Cant wait for Ragnarok to come to the western and be well received while Epic will be an Epic fail for being lame and lazy.

June 30, 2012 at 12:16 AMgrow the fvck up Sony Fanbois – the Vita may be ‘neat’, but the damn thing is way overpriced for a gaming gadget, deal with it.
Epic is simply stating the obvious – no one knows how well the Vita is going to do (i actually do know it’s sales are gonna suck) so they’re simply putting their money where their mouth is – don’t like like it? feel free to keep sucking Sonys balls, while Microsoft and the XBox keeps raping them in the Western market. lol!!..

July 19, 2012 at 10:49 AMEPIC is a relatively small company that chooses to be focused on a few games and each of those are big budget games. They clearly feel they need to release those games on systems where enough will sell to offset the cost.
They are naturally skittish on any new platform until enough viability has already been proven. It took them a long time before they did anything on iOS, the are making similar comments they did on PS-Vita for the Wii-U.
They would come around AFTER some other company helps make Wii-U or PS-Vita or ??? successful.

October 8, 2012 at 10:14 AMPretty fun reading all these old comments about how Epic’s wrong and the Vita is great… right before the Vita bombed in North America exactly like Epic said it would.

December 6, 2012 at 7:44 AMI love how the can put down a system that has better specs than an ipad, which housed the unreal engine in many demonstrations…the only exception is with this device they can actually make more money since they can sell it at higher price and the console actually has BUTTONS and really ANALOG sticks.
This is why Epic hasn’t been able to find any other identity other than Gears.
DarthDiggler
December 6, 2012 at 3:39 PMEpic hasn’t made any games on the PSP as far as I know and on the PS3 they only released Unreal Tournament III.
This isn’t really all that unexpected.

December 30, 2012 at 6:54 PMEpic’s not making any games for the PS Vita because it’s a bad machine. Vita’s a decent piece of machinery (even if it does bear an unnecessary costly rear touchpad, 3G should’ve been open to include Verizon 3G instead of only AT&T 3G, and the joysticks should’ve been lowered a bit nearer to the surface level). Epic’s not making any games for PS vita because Vita’s support sucks. It’s that simple. No one invests in what doesn’t look promising.
Even though this article’s nearly a year old now, it’s still true today. Epic Games hasn’t changed their minds towards Vita. Vita’s fortunes haven’t improved as much as Sony or many third-party developers would have hoped. And Sony’s certainly didn’t help the matter this year, when they announced a price cut for the Vita in 2013…right before Holidays 2012. Guess why many people didn’t want a Vita this year? And guess why nobody wants to develop much for Vita?.
