Before Battlefield 3, many gamers were playing Bad Company 2. In this popular FPS, one shot body kills with bolt-action sniper rifles were possible depending on the distance between the shooter and the target.
Now, fast forward to Battlefield 3. Bolt-actions can NOT kill with one shot at any range if the bullet impacts anything but the target’s head. It seems that this may change in the near future.
Alen Kertz, Core Gameplay Designer at DICE, is looking to the community to see if changing this aspect of the game is for the best. Kertz said he was “thinking of adding a ‘chest’ hit box that would allow 1HK bolt action shots at close range.” He also added that he’s “looking for Feedback: Trying for a Skill Shot.”
If this change goes into effect, the Recon class may have some new options at their disposal. However, I personally wouldn’t see this as a step forward for the title. This is mainly due to the fact that numerous Recon players remove their scope and run around with bolt-actions with iron sights only, thus ruining the class. Adding the ability to perform one shot body kills would only further encourage these players to run around with scopeless snipers. That’s my take on it. What are your thoughts?

December 5, 2011 at 12:42 PMI’d be much more interested in a one-shot chest kill at longer range with a bolt action sniper gun over something close up.. it’s very hard to snipe long range and kill your target when the first shot alerts them and they duck behind cover or start running around like a chicken with there head cut off..
also in hardcore mode there does need to be, overall, more ability to get one (and in some cases two) shot kills with any assault rifle and large caliber pistols.
I’m really tired of emptying a mag into one enemy to kill him leaving no rounds for the guy right next to him.
