As reported earlier, the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 sold over 500,000 copies. This is around 60% of total stock that was shipped for the game.
To be exact, Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the PS3 sold 62.06% of its total stock. This means Square Enix only shipped 850,000 copies of the game on the PS3.
This means Square Enix’s expectations for the game weren’t very high when you compare it to its predecessor. Final Fantasy XIII sold 1.5 million copies in its first week on the PS3 back in December 2009.
As for the Xbox 360 version, that only sold under 10,000 copies in Japan with around only 30,000 copies shipped overall.
As reported on Andrisang, Media Create says that the drop in interest is due to the female audience. Not many female gamers were looking forward to the game as they did for Final Fantasy XIII.
