Australia Starts On It’s R-Ratings

This man wants change.

No no, get your hands out of your pockets, he’s not homeless, I mean he wants things to change.

But what brings us here is that he wants Australia to finally get an R18+ rating set up in Australia. The Aussies have been getting the low end of the bargain for a while now, and while some without grasp on the situation might wonder why an R18+ rating could be considered a good thing, well, let’s consider the facts…

For games to be acceptable, there must be a difference between child-friendly and Splatterhouse-gore. Without a ratings system, there’s no way to know what any game holds. Australia can start to find reason in game purchases and understand what their kids should and shouldn’t play.

Having given words to Gamespot, he had this to say…

“I am confident we’ll have R18+ passed in the first few months of next year. I know some people are concerned about the time but it’s been going on for a decade, and we’ve made great progress. Everyone is working towards legislating for change.”

So far, infinitely more agreeable than Michael Atkinson, wouldn’t you say?
