September 30, 2011 at 4:48 AMThe song does not have the same quality of her songs in the first album nor most of her recently released songs. It is not as bad as the extremely melodramatic theme song , FAR AS THE SKY, of the Japanese TV series, BULL DOCTOR.
NEW WORLD has a generic melodramatic style with lyrics that fit a day time drama series or a telenovela that are mostly watched by full time housewives and much older audience.
There are two reasons that will save the song from not reaching the 30-year old and younger demographics. Firstly, “New World” is the theme song of the popular Final Fantasy Game Series for PS3 and Xbox 360. “New Song” is six minutes long. This means that after playing the game for at least a month, kids and adults may have probably been deeply connected to NEW WORLD, and it will not be a surprise that they get to learn to sing the song.
Secondly, Charice’s following has dramatically risen among the young demographics since her appearances in Oprah, radio sponsored events, working with very successful singers, song writers and independent producers, guest starring on Glee, and the success of her first album and the song PYRAMID worldwide. On top of all these is her superb vocals and song interpretation. She has the ability to interpret any song sounds so pleasant. No matter how bad the melody and lyrics are, Charice can save these imperfections by her incredible talent.
Do not ignore the power of her loyal fans, the Chasters. All that are about their idol can never be less than impeccable.
NEW WORLD is a tearjerker that befits a melodramatic day time TV series. It fails in comparison with nearly all her other songs except FAR AS THE SKY.
Its producer uses NEW WORLD as the the theme song of Final Fantasy X111-2 for PS3 and Xbox 360. This is a superlative marketing strategy. No matter how bad the song’s reviews, NEW WORLD will be heard world wide.
The Final Fantasy series has sold more that $92 million dollars since 1986. FF X111 has sold 2,325,215 in Japan alone with worldwide sales topping the 6.6 million copies by 2004. In Japan, the light hearted Final Fantasy X-2 sits at 1,960,937 units sold since 2003. At last check FFX-2 had sold 4 million copies worldwide with prices in some retail stores outside of the US marked at roughly $120 a copy. Given its financial success and popularity, Charice may have surely entered into a contract with a hefty share of its sales plus, advertisements, other merchandised products, and that of the album. It’s a wise move. She’s really taking notes from Oprah’s Rules for Becoming Financially Successful and Making Sound Choices to Sustain Positive Outcomes as an entertainer and an entrepreneur.
Charice’s decision to accept this project is a very clever choices.

October 1, 2011 at 1:38 AMPretty bad. Lacks any of the emotion or heft of previous singles of past FFs such as Suteki Da Ne, Eyes on Me,or Melodies of Life.

October 1, 2011 at 5:32 AMthis is 6 minutes too long. a voice alone can not save a song from mediocre lyrics and an very amateurish melody.

October 2, 2011 at 4:33 AMI love this so much. I’ll never understand the nostalgia freaks that say this cannot compare to the older games’ theme songs which, tbh are on the same level, maybe even better. Everything is great. It has a good melody, a better arrangement of the Japanese version, but unsurprising simple lyrics, given that a guy whose first language is Japanese wrote this song.

October 6, 2011 at 1:03 AMIt grows on you…but the English lyrics are awful. It’s like a literal translation of the Japanese lyrics.
